Washington (AP) — The U.N. Security Council on Monday approved a resolution demanding that the U.K. pay back more than $1 billion in bitcoins it bought in virtual currencies to fund its Brexit negotiations.
U.S., Britain and France have all rejected the idea of repatriating the bitcoins.
U.J. and the Netherlands also voted against the resolution, which was supported by China, which has threatened to close down the Bitcoin Investment Trust, a U.A.E.-based virtual currency exchange.
